Chew, chew, chew, sigh. That is the sound of people who are absolutely miserable on a diet that they think will make them healthier, but is really boring and uneventful. Let’s turn it around and rethink the whole “diet” thing. Diets only last if they are reasonable to follow. With just a little bit of hemp seed butter in our daily diets, we improve our heart health and make every system run just a bit better.
Hemp seed butter is particularly healthy for the heart, in ways we are only beginning to understand. Hemp seeds are rich in all 20 amino acids, arginine in particular. Arginine is known to aid in the production of nitric oxide, which is incredibly important for the function of the cardiovascular system. Some studies indicate that just increasing consumption of foods rich in arginine can significantly decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. Additionally. hemp butter has plenty of linoleic acid, in both the Omega-3 and Omega-6 varieties. The balance is just right, with a 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3. Linoleic acid lowers total and LDL (bad) cholesterol, increases insulin sensitivity and can also moderate blood pressure. As such, eating plenty of linoleic acid is associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.
Fatty acids are a thing that cacao hemp seed butter has in spades. However, there are other nutrients that we would be remiss not to mention as well. First, hemp seeds have plenty of Vitamin E. This antioxidant, which is great for your skin (especially in the form of hemp seed oil), is also fantastic for your eye health. Plus, the little seeds are chock full of healthy minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc. With all the protein we get from just a tablespoon or two of hemp butter, it is amazing how versatile and healthful this food is. It fulfills much of our dietary needs in just a couple of bites.
We want to note that hemp seeds are not just healthy. They are healthful, which means that each little seed contains a lot of what we need to keep our hearts pumping and our energy up. Spreading hemp butter or cacao hemp seed butter on toast, or adding them to a smoothie, turns a diet that’s drab into a lifestyle that’s fab.
