Hi, I'm Brad, the CHO of Hippie Butter, and I'm going to show you how to make Hemp Flour Tortillas, so put yourself together a Mexican food party, invite all your friends and wow them with these green hemp tortillas because they are wonderful. The green color in the Hemp Flour means it's loaded with healthy, toxins-fighting phytonutrients!
They're really easy to make. Start off with 1 cup hemp seed flour, 2 cups of bleached flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 2 teaspoons baking powder. Mix the dry ingredients together with a fork. Then we're going to take 5 Tablespoons of shortening and blend that into the flour. You can cut it in with a fork, cut it in with a pastry knife or you can just use your fingers to blend.
Now once you have all that blended well, I want you to add warm water very slowly, not hot water but warm water. I'm going to add it really slowly until we create a dough that is not sticky. I find it usually takes around 1 cup to a 1 1/4 cup warm water. Again, sometimes its just easier to use your hands to mix.
Once you have a good looking dough, I want you to knead it up for a few minutes to get it really well mixed. Then I'm going to pull the dough off and make dough balls about the size of a golf ball. I made 16 balls out of the hemp flour tortilla dough and now I'm going to set these off to the side for about 30 minutes.
We're going to take one of our dough balls, put down a little bit of flour and sprinkle a little bit on the ball. Smash it down a few times. Take yourself a roller and start from the middle and work your way out. [rolling] It's best to turn it over a couple of times. Again work from the middle to the edges.
Now that I have some of the flour tortillas rolled-out nice and thin, I heat up a skillet on medium heat; don't get it too hot or it cooks too fast. I'm just going to throw the hemp tortillas right on top. It does not take very long to cook.
We're going to cook it on this side for a few seconds, flip it over and cook it again. Then we can set it off to the side. Can you see that bubbling? Now that is a beautiful looking hemp seed flour tortilla.
I can't wait to eat this, I hope you get to try them soon.
Thank You very much for watching Cooking with Hemp Seeds! Mmmmm, this is going to be good!
